Bidushi Maya Mitra
Maya Mitra came of a noble Zamindar family.
She learned Rudra Veena from
Ustad Dabir Khan and Sitar from Ustad Vilayat Khan, as
well as
Ustad Dabir Khan.
She brilliantly acquired Dagar & Khandarbani gharanas from her guru,
Ustad Muhammad Dabir Khan,
the last descendant of Senia Gharana (Tansen's daughter lineage).
She was a top-graded artist of AIR, All India Radio, and
she was a professor in Rabindra Bharati University for few years.
While at Rabindra Bharati University, she taught
Dr Jayanta Kumar Das
Later, she was a follower of the path of spiritualism conceived by Sri Aurobindo.
She left Kolkata and started living in Pondicherry and passed away there.
